REFUGEE TRAVEL DOCUMENT

A refugee travel documents is for people that have refugee or asylum status and want to return to the US. It is also issued to lawful permanent residents who obtained their Green Cards based on their refugee or asylee status. Those that require a refugee travel document must carry it with them when traveling outside of the US or else they may not be able to re-enter the country again and be placed in removal proceedings by an immigration judge.

CASE PROCESSING OVERVIEW

Tsang & Associates focuses on the efficiency of the process and to do that we focus on expediting the process. Below are the steps included in our customized packages and how long we estimate it will take based on previous clients.

We help you prepare your expedited request statement, including the details of your travel urgency and the consequences of your inability to leave the U.S. We collect and complete the paperwork and file in 1-2 days. For our overseas clients, we file the same day of your arrival to the U.S.

Time: Same day processing

We contact USCIS and make the expedited request for supervisory review so that your case is expedited the moment that USCIS receives it.

Time: Within 1 week

We contact the biometrics center to get approval to schedule your biometrics early. Once approval is received, we accompany you to the biometrics center to complete the biometrics process. For our overseas clients, you are able to fly back to your home country once the biometrics process is complete.

Time: 10-20 days from date of filing

USCIS will send your permit in 2-4 months. Once we receive your permit, we will FedEx it to you on the same day.

Time: 2-4 days depending on international mailing

  • A copy of a document showing your current status in the US

  • An explanation (or evidence) for the circumstances that prove why you qualify for an Advance Parole

  • Prepared and signed Form I-131, Application for Travel Document

  • A copy of a photo identity document (with photo, name and date of birth) such as an Employment Authorization Card (EAD) or driver’s license

  • A copy of Form I-797 that proves your I-485 application was accepted

  • Two identical passport-style color photographs

A Refugee Travel Document is valid for up to one year. During this time you can use the document multiple times. A Refugee Travel Document may not be extended.
